Rhyming Cat Brainstorming an AT poem
fat cat sat on a mat.
When I pat it, a mat came out of his hat.
This activity was done in a preschool class. It took about 10 minutes. The poem was entertaining for the children. I know this because getting them to sit for ten minutes without fidgeting is a testament to this. I had one of the artistic children draw a hat on the cat. I started with the cat outline and then drew Sometimes, I gave them hints, such as a word that means big, but it’s not a nice word to say to people. Afterwards, I asked a child what she liked about the cat poem. She said, “taking care of it.” LOL Sometimes it takes a few tries or a couple of hundred, before you succeed.
