Space-Themed Marshmallow and Toothpick Constellation Activity
Pre-K Magic Preschool in Atlanta, Georgia had a fantastic time talking about outer space for a week. To do their last activity themed for outer space they incorporated food!
The class discussed constellations and examined some well-known ones often see in the night sky. They used cards from a pocketbook, but to make it extra exciting the teacher poked holes into the card where stars normally were and shined a light onto the card to create a shadow box of sorts as the light shined through! Then, the activity's focus turned towards using toothpicks and marshmallows for the children to build their own constellations! They used templates that students built their constellation shapes on with the marshmallows and toothpicks, and then the children enjoyed eating everything once they were done!
These templates feature 16 constellations total and can be used for students to trace the famous constellations to develop their fine motor skills or along with the marshmallow and toothpick activity. You can download these templates for free at this link.
