Writing Biographies and Drawing Portraits
At Celebree School, they did an educational activity where children picked a famous historical figure and then wrote about them as well as drawing a portrait. It was a great way to learn facts and practice art skills.
History and art
You can do this combination of history and art with your students too. Depending on the month or if you are discussing a particular historical subject, you can make that the theme. In February, it could be black history, in March, women's history, for the Summer you could have it be famous people who invented things we use in the Summer like sunscreen or umbrellas for the rainy days--there are many possibilities! After writing about their famous person, children can then draw their portrait and proudly display it.
