Apple Week at Preschool- from seed to crumble
This week we have been exploring apple week at preschool.
We used a parts of the apple free printable - with different words cut out and laminated and a A4 sheet that you could then place the words into the correct place, with a completed labeled picture for the children to copy.
We then all sat together and dissected an apple, separating the different parts according to the parts of the apple printable, including the stem, the skin, the flesh, the core and the seeds. The children really enjoyed looking at the different parts and naming them together.
We also had pictures of different things that you can make using apples and the life cycle of the apple. We baked together, creating an apple crumble, which we then ate together at lunch time. Along with a story about how apples grow, which described the growth from seed to tree, to blossom and pollination, to the forming of the fruit and the resulting apple.
This supported the children to understand what goes into growing and making an apple crumble from seed to table and the different parts that make up an apple.
