Number Sense and Number Line Independent Activity
Students used pop cubes and a number line to practice making sets of teen numbers. We used this earlier in the year with a number line of 0-10 as well. This also led into developing an understanding of one more/one less. The students were very engaged and It was a fun hands on way to practice and explore numbers. This also helped to develop an understanding of how a number line works. We use the number line as a strategy to add and subtract later on in the year. This was a great way to prepare for using a number line without the cubes. A number line alone is very abstract, this activity gives the students a concrete anchor to understand how the number line can help them add and subtract.
