Pet Turtle Paper Craft for Preschoolers
The kids loved making their own pet turtle out of paper plates, crepe paper, and construction paper at Here Wee Grow Childcare & Preschool in Menifee, California!
The letter of the week was, "T," and its lowercase version, "t," so creating turtles made perfect sense! They worked hard to make gorgeous looking turtles that (thanks to a string leash) they then were able to take on a, "Walk," once everything had dried.
How the Pet Turtle Paper Craft Was Made
To make their pet turtles, students started with a blank paper plate they flipped upside-down. They then took green paint and spread it all around the top of the plate until it was completely green. After the paint dried they took various hues of green crepe paper (also known as tissue paper) and glued it onto the green paint to create a shell-like appearance. Next, the students cut out green pieces of construction paper to serve as the turtles head, tail, and arms. With an adults help they stapled these parts onto the plate along with a string. the last step was gluing on googly eyes for the turtles to, "See."
After that, the students were able to hold onto the string and pull their turtles along with them outside on the playground so that their turtles could enjoy a, "Walk." It was a very creative activity and a fantastic way to learn more about T and t!
