Learning About Rainbows and Mixing Colors
They've been learning about the colors of the rainbow as well as color-mixing at Lotus Preschool & Studio, LLC. These two lessons were combined via fun activities where the children first saw how the colors red and blue could mix together, and then proceeded to mix-up all the colors of the rainbow!
Studying red and blue
Before tackling the whole rainbow, the children were given red and blue paint they got to mix-up. They discovered how red and blue combine to make purple. This got the kids interested in studying what could happen if even more colors were combined--such as all the colors of the rainbow!
Rainbow combination
On a large sheet of paper, the colors of the rainbow were put down as paint. There was red, orange, yellow, green, blue (indigo, and purple (violet). The children discussed what they thought should happen as the colors were combined Then, they mixed-up all the paints and saw a variety of neat colors at first before everything became a kind of a brown big mess--when you mix too many colors that's what happens! It was fun to learn about the colors of the rainbow and how they look prettier apart than all smashed-up together!
